ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Materials collected during former U.S. Sen. Carl Levin's 36 years in office have been donated to the Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan.
Levin's collection arrived Wednesday at the library in Ann Arbor and includes photos, letters, legislation, memorabilia, publications and memos.
It may take up to a year before they are ready for public use.
The Detroit Democrat served in the Senate from 1979 to 2015. Levin did not seek re-election last year.
Library Director Terrence McDonald says Levin's "career has touched every major event in a crucially important period of American history and, therefore, his papers will be consulted for decades to come."
The museum also houses the collections of 15 U.S. senators, 17 members of the U.S. House, and 31 Michigan governors.
