Lawmakers support Marquette County Road Commission and CR 595 plan

LANSING, MI--   State Representative John Kivela and State Senator Tom Casperson have introduced resolutions supporting the construction of County Road 595.

The Marquette County Road Commission recently decided to appeal the Environmental Protection Agency’s rejection of the road plan, which would connect County Road AAA in Michigamme Township with US-41 in Humboldt Township to create a faster route for trucks hauling material from the Eagle mine to the Humboldt Mill.

Kivela and Casperson are applauding the road commission’s action.  They say building 595 would take heavy traffic off of Marquette streets, cut fuel costs, and spur economic development.

The EPA declined to issue a wetlands permit for the 21-mile road.  The lawmakers say that’s despite the fact the plan offered about 26 acres of wetlands for each of the 22 acres proposed to be relocated.
