Law enforcement warning against 'IRS' scam

MARQUETTE, MI (AP)--   The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is again reminding residents that the IRS does not call citizens to request payment of back taxes.

A scam continues to circulate where a caller states they are an agent with the IRS and requests an amount of money be paid by money order.

The victim may also receive a call from someone claiming to be from law enforcement and that a warrant is out for the victim’s arrest.  The so-called “spoofed” call will show up on caller ID as any number the scammer wants, like a police agency.

Deputies say residents should hang up immediately if they receive either type of phone call.
