LANSING, MI (AP)-- Republican U.S. Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land is opposing a resolution authorizing U.S. military force against Syria.
She released a statement Thursday saying President Barack Obama hasn't made a compelling case to justify military intervention. Land says no one has shown the intervention is "vital to America's national security interests."
Land is the only Republican candidate for the Senate seat opening with Carl Levin's retirement.
The lone Democratic candidate, U.S. Rep Gary Peters of Bloomfield Township, remains undecided on Syria. Peters says he takes the decision to use military force "very seriously" and is reviewing classified intelligence and talking with experts and constituents.
Land says Peters should vote no.
Obama called for military action after blaming Syrian President Bashar Assad for a chemical weapons attack he says killed civilians.
