Kallio pleads to New Year's stabbing

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Ewen man accused of stabbing a Marquette man on New Year’s Day has entered a plea in the case.

Casey Kallio, 26, was originally charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and malicious destruction of property in the Washington Street incident.  Victim Christopher Koory, 24, suffered stab wounds to his abdomen, but recovered.

This week Kallio pleaded no contest to assault less than murder. The charge of malicious destruction of property was dropped. 

Sentencing is set for June 5. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
