MARQUETTE, MI-- The Upper Peninsula unemployment rate was little changed in June, edging up 0.2 percentage points to 5.4 percent.
The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget says employment in the region rose seasonally by 2,800, while the number of those seeking jobs also increased.
Mackinac County tied for the second lowest unemployment rate in the state during June at 2.9 percent. Ontonagon County had the highest jobless rate in the U.P. at 7.8 percent.
The Upper Peninsula’s seasonally unadjusted June unemployment rate of 5.4 percent was well above the Michigan rate of 4 percent and the national rate of 4.5 percent.
