Ishpeming suspect taken into custody after standoff with law enforcement

ISHPEMING, MI--   An Ishpeming man is jailed, following a 15-hour standoff with police.  

WLUC-TV reports a woman who was injured during a domestic violence incident fled a home at 1855 Hewitt Street Monday around 11:15 a.m.  She told police a man was still inside the house, threatening to shoot people. 

A Michigan State Police Emergency Service team from downstate Dundee was called to assist in the matter. 

Police say they made contact with the man around 2:15 Tuesday morning and he surrendered peacefully after seeing a State Police armored vehicle. 

The suspect remains lodged at the Marquette County Jail. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
