MASTODON TOWNSHIP, MI-- State Police from the Iron Mountain Post discovered a large amount of explosive material following an explosion in Mastodon Township.
Wednesday around 12:30 p.m. troopers were called to a residence to investigate a report of an explosion and gunfire. They found two people had tried to bring down a structure using large amounts of Tannerite and fireworks. Troopers seized commercial-grade fireworks, a large quantity of Tannerite, and pipe-bomb-type explosives.
The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad from Gaylord was called to dispose of the material.
Charges are being sought against the individuals involved.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Michigan DNR Law Enforcement.
