IRON MOUNTAIN, MI (AP)--   The 78-year-old Central School building in Iron Mountain is expected to be sold to a developer that plans to build senior apartments.

The Daily News of Iron Mountain reports Tuesday that the Iron Mountain school board has approved a deal worth $445,000 with Commonwealth Development Corp. of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Six lots also are part of the agreement.

Thirty independent living units for people 55 and older are planned for the school building. Ten cottage-style homes would be built across the street.

Commonwealth Vice President of Development David Ritchay says "there is a lot going on" in the area "with the business district and neighborhood."

Iron Mountain is in Michigan's Upper Peninsula along the state line with Wisconsin.
