Interim president selected for LSSU

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   The Lake Superior State University Board of Trustees has chosen Dr. Peter Mitchell to serve as interim president, effective July 1.

LSSU’s eighth president, Dr. Thomas Pleger, died May 7 following a brief illness. Interim Provost David Roland Finley has been serving as acting president since then.

Mitchell was the 14th president of Albion College from 1997 to 2007. Most recently he’s been running the consulting company Proactive Transition Management. The company manages change and transitions for colleges and universities.

Lake State Board Chair Jim Curran says Mitchell’s success in enrollment, fundraising, and strategic planning are the skills needed to meet the challenges and opportunities facing the university.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
