Improvements coming to Washington Street

MARQUETTE, MI--   The 200 block of Washington Street in Marquette is getting a makeover.

The project includes removal and replacement of curbs, removal of brick pavers, the installation of stamped concrete, and the planting of street trees.

Traffic will flow through the area and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project, but no parking will be permitted.

The south side of the street comprises the first phase of the project and is expected to be complete in the next three weeks.  Work will then shift to the north side of the street.

Anyone who purchased personalized pavers in the mid-1980s, which are currently in the existing brickwork on the 200 block, can contact the Marquette Downtown Development Authority to obtain their brick.  Requests must be received prior to May 22.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
