Illegal immigrants arrested in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI--   The U.S. Border Patrol has arrested eight undocumented immigrants who were working in Marquette.

WLUC-TV reports U.S. Customs received a tip about their presence from a Marquette County Sheriff’s deputy. Agents conducted traffic stops in Marquette Tuesday and took seven Mexican citizens and one Honduran into custody.

The eight allegedly admitted they were in the country illegally. They were working to install glass panels on the new UPHS-Marquette hospital.

The immigrants are now lodged in the Chippewa County Jail in Sault Ste. Marie.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
