LANSING, MI (AP)-- Retired federal law enforcement officers would be able to carry a concealed weapon in "gun-free" zones under a bill approved by the Michigan House.
The bill was approved 73-37 Wednesday in the Republican-controlled House.
It would let retired federal law enforcement officers with concealed weapons license carry a concealed weapon in "gun-free" zones such as schools, daycare centers and bars.
The bill applies to retirees who were required to carry a firearm on the job and who retired in good standing.
Supporters of the bill say it would create consistency. Retired state law enforcement officers are already allowed to carry concealed weapons in "gun-free" zones.
The bills now return to the GOP-led Senate for final approval before going to Republican Governor Rick Snyder for his signature.
