Houghton County inmate on the run in Wisconsin

WLUC-TV

GREEN BAY, WI--   Police continue to look for an inmate who escaped from the Houghton County Jail Friday.

John Saatio, 34, is serving time for home invasion, destruction of police property, a probation violation, and for being a sex offender.  Around 9:45 a.m. he ran from authorities as he was being escorted from the courthouse back to jail following his arraignment.  Saatio ditched his orange jail shoes and took off east on Huron Street.  A resident saw him run across his yard, then disappear.

Another jail inmate apparently knew Saatio planned to escape that day.

On Saturday Houghton County officials received word that Saatio was spotted in a Green Bay, Wisconsin business.  Police there have looked at footage from a security camera and believe it is him.

Authorities say a gray 1995 Subaru Legacy was reported stolen in the Green Bay area around 8:30 Saturday night.  They think Saatio may have taken it

The car has Michigan registration DBF 1524.  It’s described as rusty with damage to the rear passenger quarter near the tail light.

Anyone who spots Saatio or the vehicle is asked to call 911 immediately.
