Heroin bust in Houghton

HOUGHTON, MI--   A Chicago man has been arrested in Houghton on drug charges.

The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team received information of possible drug activity at the Super 8 in the city.  UPSET West gathered enough evidence to execute a search warrant Wednesday at the motel room.  They found over 8 grams of suspected heroin, evidence of drug distribution, prescription narcotics, and $500.

A 38-year-old man was lodged in the Houghton County Jail for possession with the intent to distribute heroin and a Schedule II narcotic.  His name has not yet been released, pending arraignment.

UPSET was assisted by Houghton City Police and a Michigan State Police K-9 unit.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
