Hearing set for robbery suspects

MARQUETTE, MI--    A preliminary hearing is set for three suspects in connection with an armed robbery in Marquette last week.

Wednesday night police were called to the 900 block of Fair Avenue.  Witnesses said a man wearing a hoodie and a ski mask and carrying a gun tried to enter the house, but was shut out.

Police were able to identify and arrest three suspects:  Nasir Jones, 18, Aiseah Achesah, 22, and Stephan Akins, 21, all of Marquette.  All are charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and firearms charges.

Jones trained as a boxer at the Olympic Training Center at Northern Michigan University.  Achesah trained as a wrestler at the center in 2012 and 2013, while Akins quit the NMU football team in 2013.

A preliminary exam for all three is set for June 1.  They remain lodged in the Marquette County Jail on $300,000 bonds.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
