Hearing for Newberry correctional officer coming up

NEWBERRY, MI--   A probable cause hearing is scheduled for a Newberry man charged with solicitation of murder.

Jason Lee Bufford, 37, is suspended without pay from the Newberry Correctional Facility after a two-month investigation at the prison.

The charge is punishable by up to life in prison.  Prosecutors say in order for Bufford to be convicted they’ll have to prove an agreement was made.

Bufford’s probable cause hearing is set for March 23.

He remains lodged in the Chippewa County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
