Health enrollment slightly extended

LANSING, MI (AP)--   The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is offering an extended enrollment period to Michigan residents who were unable to finish enrollment through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

Anyone who couldn't complete the process due to an issue with HealthCare.gov or the enrollment hotline will have until Saturday to complete their application. This will allow currently uninsured Michigan residents to select a plan that will begin on March 1.

Erin Knott, Michigan state director for Get Covered America, says the nonprofit campaign will continue reaching out to eligible people to answer questions and encourage them to enroll for health insurance.

The campaign plans to make about 25,000 calls to uninsured Americans who may be able to take advantage of the special enrollment period.
