UPDATE: Hackers hitting Marquette businesses

UPDATE, 1/30/15: Walgreens Media Relations representative Phil Caruso says his company has not received any reports of data breaches at the Marquette Walgreens, nor has the Marquette Police Department, to his knowledge.

______________

MARQUETTE, MI--   Keep an eye on your credit card and bank accounts.

That’s the advice from the Marquette Police Department, which says it’s investigating reports of hackers downloading credit card information from local businesses.  Suspects are breaking into card readers to obtain names and numbers, then using the data to commit fraud.

Point of sales breaches have reportedly happened at Walgreens and the Blue Link Party Store in Marquette.  Information from the credit cards of more than 200 Blue Link customers was apparently stolen last week.

Police encourage residents to frequently monitor their accounts and report any discrepancies to their financial institution.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
