Gwinn-Sawyer clinic receives federal money

GWINN, MI--   A Marquette County health center is getting federal funding to provide services in the Copper Country.

The Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center is a not-for-profit organization that provides primary health care in Gwinn and Sawyer.  It has been given $739,333 in New Access Point funding.  It will use the money to provide care to 3,750 underserved patients at two clinics in Houghton County—an area that officials say is underserved and lacks an adequate number of primary care providers.

The money is part of $67 million in funding going to clinic sites around the country.  The clinics offer health care regardless of ability to pay.
