MACKINAC ISLAND, MI (AP)-- The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island turns 125 Tuesday.
The 385-room hotel opened for the first time on July 10, 1887, and is planning a series of events and activities to celebrate the anniversary. Governor Rick Snyder has proclaimed this week “Grand Hotel Week” in Michigan. And Tuesday a 125-foot birthday cake will be served to guests on the hotel's 660-foot front porch.
Next weekend's celebrations will include fireworks and concerts, and three former Michigan governors will join Grand Hotel guests for a special event. Ex-Governors William Milliken, James Blanchard, and John Engler have confirmed they'll be attending.
