Governor attends UP State Fair Thursday, travels to Marquette Friday

MARQUETTE, MI--   Governor Rick Snyder spent time in the Escanaba area Thursday on his tour of the Upper Peninsula this week.

Snyder stopped at Bay College to learn about the school’s skilled trades programs. He also went to the Upper Peninsula State Fair to honor Navy vet and U.P. Veteran of the Year Tom DeCarlo. The day included remarks at the fair’s Governor’s Luncheon, then a tour of the Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad rail car and manufacturing facility.

Friday morning at 9 Governor Snyder will attend the 21st Century Infrastructure Commission’s Northern Michigan Listening Tour. It’s the second of three listening tours across the state, allowing commissioners the opportunity to hear from the public regarding infrastructure visions, challenges, and expectations.  He will be joined by Northern Michigan University President Fritz Erickson, Department of Talent and Economic Development Director Steve Arwood, Department of Technology, Management and Budget Director David Behen, and Michigan Agency for Energy Executive Director Valerie Brader.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
