MARQUETTE, MI--   Gnomes are popping up on the campus of Northern Michigan University, and officials are not pleased.

On Wednesday gnomes were found spray-painted on three buildings, including Lee Hall and the Forest Roberts Theatre.  Some buildings were decorated with more than 20 gnomes.

NMU Public Safety is monitoring the gnome-tagged areas and looking for whoever is responsible.

Officials are in the process of washing the graffiti off the walls.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
