Geoheritage the aim of former Tech professor

CALUMET, MI (AP)--   A retired Upper Peninsula professor is bringing geology and history together with a website that promotes the area's geoheritage.

The Daily Mining Gazette of Houghton reports that retired Michigan Technological University professor Bill Rose started the website to provide information on unique geological sites individuals can explore and promote tourism in the Copper Country.

Rose recently promoted the idea to about 60 area residents at Calumet High School. He says geoheritage is "geology with links to social science and history."

He has also created a map of Geo Walk/Bike Sites in Houghton that can be found on his Keweenaw Geoheritage website, and he's working on another for Calumet.

Rose hopes one day to see a geopark in the area.
