Gas prices edge up slightly

DEARBORN, MI (AP)--   AAA Michigan reports statewide gas prices have increased by about 3 cents a gallon within the past week.

The auto club says the average price per gallon of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was about $1.96 on Sunday. That's about $1.35 less than it was a year ago.

It marks the fourth consecutive week the statewide average price has remained below $2.

Dearborn-based AAA Michigan surveys daily fuel costs at 2,800 Michigan gas stations. It says the cheapest price was about $1.91 in the Marquette area, while the highest price was about $1.99 in the Traverse City area.

According to the most recent AAA report, Michigan placed eighth in the nation for the least expensive average gas prices.
