Forsyth Township officials looking into recent wildfires

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI--   Officials say wildfires in Forsyth Township have been contained.

Monday around 12:35 p.m. Forsyth Police responded to the report of a fire at the end of Marshall Drive near County Road EL. Officers discovered two locations several hundred feet apart that were on fire and were rapidly spreading. DNR firefighters also responded and were able to control the fire after it had burned about three acres.

Forsyth Police and the DNR have responded to approximately eight fires in the last two to three weeks. Monday an ATV rider saw two young males in a silver sedan rapidly leaving the scene of a fire. The rider tried to extinguish the flames, but had to call 911.

Law enforcement continues to search for the suspect vehicle and is working on a joint investigation into the wildfires.

Anyone with information regarding the suspects is asked to call Forsyth Township Police at 346-9224.
