Former murder suspect bound over on drug charges

MANISTIQUE, MI--   A Manistique man once suspected of murder in a triple-homicide case has been bound over to circuit court on felony drug charges.

A preliminary hearing for Kenneth Brunke, 46, was held Tuesday on three counts of delivery of a controlled substance (narcotic or cocaine)—less than 50 grams and conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance (narcotic or cocaine)—450 to 999 grams.

Brunke was sentenced in February to 40 to 60 months in prison for obstruction of justice and lying to a peace officer.  That was related to the deaths of Jody Hutchinson, Carrie Nelson, and Heather Aldrich, who were found in a burned-out car in Doyle Township last April.

Brunke now faces up to 90 years in prison and a $525,000 fine.

Arraignment is set for April 7 in Schoolcraft County Circuit Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
