Former Finlandia president passes

SHEBOYGAN, WI--   Finlandia University is mourning the loss of former President Robert Ubbelohde.

Ubbelohde joined Finlandia—then Suomi College—as the Dean of Faculty in 1988. Shortly afterward he was named President and Professor of Philosophy until his retirement in 2004.

Ubbelohde was instrumental in converting Suomi College into Finlandia University—a baccalaureate degree-granting institution. The change happened in July of 2000.

Funeral arrangements are set for Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Ubbelohde was 75.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
