Fire at Presque Isle power plant

MARQUETTE, MI--  Marquette firefighters were called to the WE Energies Power Plant on Lakeshore Boulevard after a fire broke out in one of the plant's coal hoppers. 

Tuesday around 4:25 a.m. two engines and six firefighters responded.  A second alarm brought five additional personnel to the scene.  As of 9:50 a.m. firefighters remained at the plant, assisting WE Energies officials in mitigating the incident.  Fire engines left the scene around 10:30 a.m.

Officials don't yet know how much damage the fire has caused. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
