Fire claims the life of Calumet Township woman

CALUMET TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Houghton County woman has died in a house fire.  

State Police from the Calumet Post were called Sunday around 4:35 p.m. to a residence on Osceola Road in Calumet Township. 

Negaunee Regional Dispatch reported someone was possibly trapped in the house, which was fully engulfed.  Calumet and Laurium firefighters battled the blaze for more than four hours.  Once the fire was extinguished the body of a 63-year-old woman was found in the house. 

The State Police Fire Marshal has been notified and will investigate the incident. 

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department and Laurium Village Police assisted at the scene.    

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
