Fire breaks out in Marquette home

MARQUETTE, MI--   Officials are investigating the cause of a fire on College Avenue in Marquette Monday.

The City Fire Department was called shortly after noon to a home at 728 West College Avenue and found light smoke coming from the second-story windows. When a crew entered the basement firefighters found heavy smoke and a moderate fire burning in a secluded area. They extinguished the flames and cleared smoke from the house.

All the home’s occupants were able to get out. No injuries are reported.

What started the fire is unknown. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
