LANSING, MI (WNMU) – Michigan lawmakers are preparing for what could be some of the final votes related to the state’s next budget cycle.
Conference committees made up of members of the House and Senate are expected to begin meetings on finding budget compromises as early as Tuesday. Votes could come in the legislature later this week.
The next budget year begins October 1.
Governor Rick Snyder and GOP legislative leaders reached tentative budget target agreements last week. The deal would cut state aid to public schools, universities, community colleges and most state departments.
Democrats are opposed to the spending targets, but they’re outnumbered by Republicans in both the House and Senate.
