Final numbers for MI insurance enrollment released

DETROIT, MI (AP)--   Federal officials say more than 272,000 Michigan residents chose health plans in the new insurance marketplace under President Barack Obama's health care law.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released final enrollment numbers Thursday. The report says about 468,000 Michigan residents were eligible to enroll.

The administration hasn't said how many of the enrollees were previously uninsured or how many have paid their premiums.

In Michigan, nearly 200,000 have also enrolled in expanded Medicaid coverage.

More than 8 million people have signed up nationally by the March 31 deadline, representing about 59 percent of eligible people. The percentage was roughly the same in Michigan.
