Final day to sign up for health exchanges for this year

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Advocates and insurers are making a last-ditch push to sign up Michigan residents for coverage under the federal health care law.

People who start an application by Monday can enroll for this year in the insurance exchanges created under President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.

Enrollment events are scheduled across the state.

About 145,000 Michigan residents had enrolled in private insurance plans by earlier this month. Roughly 314,000 people in the state had completed an application and were eligible to enroll in a marketplace plan. As of Thursday, 6 million people have signed up nationally.

The effort comes one day before the expansion of Medicaid to more low-income adults begins April 1 in Michigan.
