Father Marquette statue damaged

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette Police are investigating the vandalism of the Father Marquette statue in the city. 

Officials say someone sprayed red paint on the face and chest of the statue on South Front Street.  They think it happened between October 30 and 31.

A $500 reward is being offered by the Marquette Beautification Committee for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible. 

Anyone with information regarding the damage is asked to call Marquette Police at 228-0400. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
