Escanaba River Bridge to be removed next week

ESCANABA, MI--   The Escanaba River Bridge on US-2 is closing for work next week.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says both lanes will be shut down next Monday at 9 a.m. so the old railroad bridge can be removed. M-DOT says in order to expedite the work and minimize closure time, crews will work at night.

During the closure northbound traffic will be detoured via Delta County Roads 426, 420, and 531, then M-35. The detour is reversed for southbound traffic.

The closure will end at 6 a.m. Friday, October 20.

This is the second of four planned detours for the replacement of the Escanaba River Bridge.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
