Escanaba mother loses custody of child determined to be victim of abuse

ESCANABA, MI--   The mother of an Escanaba baby whose father was arrested for child abuse has had her parental rights terminated.

The 11-month-old boy was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital in January with signs of abuse. The father, Jerry Munger, 22, was arrested and charged with first-degree child abuse involving an infant.

On Wednesday Melisah Jenkins, 21, lost her rights to the child when it was determined she failed to stop the abuse.

The child is in foster care.

Munger’s next court date is April 16. He remains lodged in the Delta County Jail on a $650,000 bond.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
