Escanaba juvenile in custody for taking car

ESCANABA, MI--   Escanaba Public Safety officers have arrested a juvenile for stealing a car.  

Police say around 11:30 Sunday night the boy took the vehicle from a residence, then drove to Ludington Park.  Officers tried to stop the driver, who led them on a chase for a couple of minutes, then fled on foot. 

No injuries are reported, but the vehicle suffered minor damage.

The boy is being held at Bay Pines Correctional Facility.  He faces charges of unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding a police officer, and operating without a license.

His name will not be released due to his juvenile status.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
