Escanaba driver arrested after ramming car down street

ESCANABA, MI--   A driver accused of causing two accidents in Escanaba was arrested for several felonies Saturday night.

Witnesses called Public Safety to say a pickup truck drove through private property at a business at the intersection of Lincoln Road and Ludington Street. It hit a vehicle and fled the scene. The truck then struck a passenger vehicle on the 200 block of North Lincoln Road, causing it to turn sideways. The truck continued to ram into the driver’s side of the car and push it up the street. The pickup then left the roadway, hit a sign, and continued to 3rd Avenue North, where it rear-ended a passenger vehicle.

An Escanaba officer witnessed the final crash.

The pickup driver resisted the officer and was restrained with the help of bystanders. He was arrested for three counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, two counts of hit and run, operating while intoxicated, resisting and obstructing an officer, and two counts of malicious destruction of property.

Two people in the passenger vehicle were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
