Eastern U.P. man faces life in prison for sexually assaulting woman

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Sault Ste. Marie man has been convicted in Marquette federal court on sexual abuse charges.

They stem from a June 27 incident in which Lynn Michael LaVictor, 44, sexually assaulted his then-girlfriend at his mother’s house on the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians reservation.  The injuries she received in the attack required surgery.  LaVictor was later accused of trying to influence the victim’s testimony against him.

LaVictor was convicted Tuesday of attempted sexual abuse, two counts of aggravated sexual abuse, assault resulting in serious bodily injury, attempted witness tampering, and domestic assault as a habitual offender.  He faces up to life in prison.

Sentencing is set for May 8.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
