Downstate man injured in Manistique Township motorcycle crash

MANISTIQUE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A motorcycle rider was injured in a collision with a deer Sunday morning in Manistique Township.

Troopers from the Manistique Detachment say a 59-year-old Macomb man was westbound on US-2 near Tannery Road when a deer ran into the road. The man hit the deer and was thrown from the motorcycle, which continued west, hit a mailbox, and came to rest in a yard.

Around 9 a.m. a trooper on routine patrol came upon the rider, who was lying on the side of the road. He was taken to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials say the man was wearing a full helmet and leather protective gear at the time of the crash.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
