ST. IGNACE, MI--   A Flint man has been arrested in St. Ignace on several drug charges.

The Tri-County Drug Enforcement Taskforce took Sammy Laporta III, 37, into custody Thanksgiving Day after he allegedly sold cocaine to an officer.  Police say Laporta transported the cocaine from Lower Michigan just prior to the purchase.

Laporta is charged with delivery of cocaine, delivery/manufacture of marijuana, maintaining a drug house, and driving with a suspended license.  He’s also being charged as a habitual offender.

Police say Laporta brought two pre-teen children with him from downstate.  Child Protective Services was called in to assist.

A probable cause hearing is set for December 9, and a preliminary exam is scheduled for December 16 in Mackinac County District Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
