Downstate boy pleads to gun charge

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, MI (AP)--   An 11-year-old boy accused of bringing a loaded gun to school in northern Michigan has pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon.

In exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop two charges Tuesday in Grand Traverse County court.

The boy was in fifth grade in September when another student at Kingsley Middle School told a teacher about the weapon. The pistol had one bullet. No one was hurt at the school, southeast of Traverse City.

The boy will return on Dec. 19 for his sentence. He's been expelled from Kingsley Middle School.

As a juvenile, he'll have an opportunity to clear his criminal record in the years ahead if he stays out of trouble. He turns 12 in April.
