MARQUETTE, MI-- The Department of Natural Resources says it’s suspending Chinook salmon stocking in Lake Superior.
The DNR says the move is due to the success of the self-sustaining wild population. Officials say more than 99 percent of angler-caught chinooks in Michigan waters originate from natural reproduction.
Creel clerks have collected data on the ratios of unclipped wild salmon to clipped raised fish since 2012. The DNR says the information indicates anglers will continue to catch Chinook salmon, despite the conclusion of stocking efforts.
