RABER TOWNSHIP, MI-- The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is considering whether to go forward with a land purchase that would give the public more access to the St. Marys River in Chippewa
County.
The Mining Journal of Marquette reports the state would pay $156,000 for roughly 6 acres of land in Chippewa County's Raber Township. An agency memo says the parcel includes a 300-foot harbor structure, and that the land would provide shelter for boaters, canoers and kayakers.
The memo says the land would be managed as part of the Lime Island State Recreation Area.
A decision whether to buy the parcel is expected from Department of Natural Resources Director Keith Creagh at a Thursday meeting.
The St. Marys River connects Lake Superior and Lake Huron.
