DeValle sentenced

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Sawyer man convicted of strangling his girlfriend has been sentenced. 

Steven DeValle, 42, was given three years in prison with credit for 435 days already served Thursday by Judge Karl Weber. He was found guilty of assault by strangulation and interfering with electronic communications, causing injury or death by a jury in July.

DeValle was arrested July 4 after the victim said he choked her, then prevented her from using a phone to call 911.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
