DETROIT, MI (AP)-- A Detroit museum's effort to bring art to unexpected places will feature installations in Alpena and Traverse City as well as on Mackinac Island.
Reproductions of pieces from the Detroit Institute of Arts' collection go on view around the northern Michigan communities May 20-Oct. 31 as part of "Inside/Out."
The reproductions will feature various artists and styles, from old masters to modern art. Among displays in Traverse City are "The Nut Gatherers" by William Bouguereau and "Reeds and Cranes," a landscape by Japanese artist Suzuki Kiitsu.
In Alpena, reproductions of Vincent van Gogh's "Portrait of Postman Roulin" and John Singleton Copley's "Watson and the Shark" go on view; Mackinac Island hosts "Dancers in the Green Room" by Edgar Degas and "Self Portrait" by Paul Gauguin.
