Deputy stabbed at Continental Cup

Iron Mountain Daily News

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP, MI--   Authorities say they've arrested a Norway man who stabbed a sheriff's deputy in the back at a ski jump tournament.

Dickinson County Sheriff Scott Celello says the attack happened around noon Sunday during the Continental Cup Ski Jumping Tournament at Pine Mountain in Breitung Township.

The Iron Mountain Daily News reports that two deputies were patrolling the event and were walking near the club house when the suspect, identified as 74-year-old Andrew Bray, approached them from behind and stabbed one in the upper back.  Celello says the knife was knocked from Bray’s hands and he was arrested.

Authorities say Bray wanted to target a deputy, but not one in particular.  The injured deputy was treated at the scene.

Bray is charged with assault with intent to murder and carrying a concealed weapon.  Bond is set at $1 million.

A preliminary exam is scheduled for February 22 in Dickinson County Court.
