Delta County woman charged with taking funds from vulnerable veteran

ESCANABA, MI--   An Escanaba woman has been arrested for embezzling money from a vulnerable adult.

Detectives from the Escanaba Department of Public Safety took the 37-year-old woman into custody Wednesday morning following a several-month-long investigation.  They say the case involves missing funds from a resident of the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette.

The suspect is charged with embezzlement from a vulnerable adult—$100,000 or more.  It’s punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine, or three times the amount of money involved, whichever is greater.

Officials say the woman turned herself in after formal charges were authorized.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
