Delta County gets funding to better help crime victims

ESCANABA, MI--   Delta County has received a grant to enhance and expand local services to crime victims.

County Prosecutor Philip Strom says the $50,087 grant was awarded by the Department of Justice and will be administered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The two main components of the grant are a Victim Outreach Coordinator at the Prosecutor’s Office and expanded professional counseling services for victims.  The coordinator will implement a rapid response program to provide immediate and more effective outreach to victims.  They will also identify victim needs and make referrals to appropriate services.  The counselor position will provide professional counseling services from Tri-County Safe Harbor.

Strom says the new program is designed to focus on the safety, dignity, and healthy recovery of victims of crime.
